Every second of every minute of every hour, antibiotics are saving lives. They are one of the most important medical tools we have in Sweden – and we want to keep it that way.
The problem
Antibiotics are losing their effectiveness. Incorrect and excessive use of antibiotics have allowed resistant bacteria to spread rapidly throughout the world. If we do not halt this development, common illnesses such as pneumonia can become incurable.
More about the problemThe solution
We cannot stop the spread of resistant bacteria completely. But we can slow it down. To do this, we need a concerted global effort across a number of sectors – healthcare, animal health, research, food production and environmental technology. Every little contribution is a step in the right direction.
More about the solutionWhat you can do
You can help too. By making smart choices in your day-to-day life you can reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics and help to slow down the spread of resistant bacteria. You can also help by raising awareness.
More about what you can doWhat we are doing
The Save Antibiotics (Skydda antibiotikan) initiative brings together 25 agencies and organisations with expertise in everything from healthcare, animal health and food to medicines, agriculture and the marine environment. We see our task as raising awareness, both of the enormous challenges we face and of what individual people can do to make a difference.
